Kent, WA- The Tri-City Americans (14-18-1-0, 29 pts) won an exciting game, with Jordan Topping netting the game winner, helping Tri-City defeat the Seattle Thunderbirds (18-11-3-0, 39 pts) 3-2 in front of 3,171 at ShoWare Center on Friday Night.

Each team had a couple scoring chances in the first, with Seattle outshooting Tri-City 11-10. Neither team was able to score a goal in the first period.
Tri-City got on the board 6:53 into the second on the power play. Beau McCue’s second effort from the slot put the puck into the net for a 1-0 lead. Midway through the period, Seattle tied the game at one, as Jerret Smith cleaned up a rebound at the right side of the net. Shots were even at 10 in the period.
Seattle gained the lead 8:36 into the third, as a 2-on-1 allowed Donovan Neuls to slap home a shot for a 2-1 advantage. The Americans pressed to get the tying goal, and found it with less than five minutes remaining in the third. Parker Bowles fired a shot five-hole that lit the red lamp to tie the score at two. Neither team could find a winner in regulation, sending the game to overtime.
It took 42 seconds for the Americans to find the winner, as Topping slapped a backhand shot into the net for the win.
Tri-City has tied a season-high three game win streak and snaps a 12-game losing streak against Seattle at ShoWare Center.
The Americans were 1-of-6 on the power play and recorded 19 penalty minutes while the Thunderbirds converted 1-of-5 power play opportunities and spent 21 minutes in the penalty box.
Nicholas Sanders stopped 27 shots in the win while Logan Flodell made 32 saves in the loss.
Tri-City will travel back to Kennewick to face the Thunderbirds tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 19, to end the first half of the season. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. at the Toyota Center.
