Americans Prepare For 2014 Bantam Draft

Tri-City Americans management and scouts are in the process of finishing preparations in advance of Thursday’s 2014 WHL Bantam Draft, which begins at 7:30AM (PST) in Calgary, Alberta.

The Americans hold the 7th overall pick in the first round and a total of 6 selections in the first five rounds of the draft.  It is the highest first round draft position Tri-City will select from since trading up to the #7 slot in the 2009 Bantam Draft, where they selected C/LW Connor Rankin.

Tri-City’s previous first round selections include: Parker AuCoin (#15, 2013), Parker Wotherspoon (#21, 2012), Eric Comrie (#13, 2010), Connor Rankin (#7, 2009), Zachary Yuen (#22, 2008), Jason Gardiner (#8, 2006), Eric Mestery (#7, 2005), Joel Broda (#9, 2004), Jonathan Toews (#1, 2003), Carey Price (#7, 2002), Brett Festerling (#5, 2001), Logan Stephenson (#6, 2001), Ian McDonald (#3, 2000), Chris Stubel (#15, 1999), Andrew DeSousa (#2, 1998), Eric Johansson (#4, 1997), Tim Green (#14, 1996), Darrell Hay (#9, 1995), Scott McCallum (#2, 1994), Terry Ryan (#3, 1992), Mark Stephan (#10, 1991), Chris Top (#9, 1990).

The WHL Bantam Draft is the first opportunity for the Americans and the 21 other WHL Clubs to replenish their 50-player protected lists with graduating Bantam-aged players from the western United States and Canadian provinces, a group consisting this year of players born in 1999.  The draft order is based on the inverse overall standings from the 2013-14 regular season.  For a complete list of all-time Tri-City Americans Bantam Draft results, CLICK HERE.
