The weather is heating up in Kennewick and so are the offseason adventures. We checked in with our returning players to find out what they’re up to this summer and how they’re preparing for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for a Summer Check-In with each Americans player, and check out previous Summer Check-In articles HERE.
Describe your offseason training routine:
SM: My offseason trading routine consists on waking up around 9 am Monday – Friday and working out at 10:30 with my trainer. That typically takes about 1 hour 30 minutes and then I train on the ice at about 12:30.
Which skills are you focused on improving?
SM: This summer I’ve been focused mostly on my explosiveness and quick hands through off-ice and on-ice training.
Have you spent time with any of your Americans teammates over the offseason?
SM: None of the guys really live close to me, but I have run in to a couple of the guys around rinks and places in Vancouver.
What has been the highlight of your summer so far? Or what are you looking forward to?
SM: The thing I’m looking forward to most this summer is Canada U-18 camp at the end of July, and hopefully the Ivan Hlinka tournament if everything works out.
Looking back at the Americans 2017-18 season, what was your favorite moment?
SM: My favourite moment of the 2017-18 season was our long playoff run, especially sweeping the first two rounds. We were playing the best hockey of our season.
What are you most looking forward to about returning to Tri-City in August?
SM: I can’t wait to get back to Tri and play in front of the amazing fans at the Toyota Center. I’m excited for opening night.
Favorite song of the summer?
SM: Moonlight by XXXTentacion
Fun fact: Sasha’s favorite sport other than hockey is basketball.
