Americans Drop Pre-Season Opener 4-1

Everett, WA – Kennewick native Taylor Vickerman scored the lone goal as the Tri-City Americans (0-1) lost to the Seattle Thunderbirds (1-0) 4-1 in day-one of the Everett Silvertips Holiday Inn Pre-Season Classic.

All though the Americans outshot the Thunderbirds in the first period, a Michal Holub goal gave the Thunderbirds the early lead scoring just past the halfway point of the first period.

Vickerman’s goal at 13:41 of the second period tied the game but the Thunderbirds took the lead for good with Carter Folk scoring the eventual game winner for Seattle late in the middle frame.

Insurance markers by Matthew Brazal and Keegan Kolesar put the game out of reach for the Americans in the third period.

Eric Comrie made his pre-season debut for the Americans Friday morning playing the first half of the game stopping 17 of 18 shots before being replaced by Troy Trombley who stopped 14 of the 17 shots.

The Americans are back in action tomorrow August 31 when they take on the defending WHL Champion Portland Winterhawks at 11:30 a.m. for day-two of the Everett Silvertips Holiday Inn Pre-Season Classic.
