KENNEWICK, WA – After getting off to a slow start, the Americans pushed for a comeback late in the preseason opener in Everett against the Portland Winterhawks. However, their efforts fell short and the Hawks were able to take it 4-3.

The Ams came out slow as Portland’s Blichfeld was able to net one just over one minute into the game on a power play. In the first period, the Americans allowed 3 goals.

In the second period, Portland’s Colina would get the eventual game winner just a minute in. Beck Warm got the nod to take Nicholas Sander’s place halfway through the second period. Sanders finished with 20 saves on 24 shots.

In the third, the action was dominated by the Americans. Outshooting the Winterhawks 17-10 in the final period, Jordan Topping and rookie Paycen Bjorklund scored just 26 seconds apart to bring the Americans back within striking distance. Michael Rasmussen added on a tally with just over 1:30 left in the period. Unfortunately, that would be the end of the comeback attempt. Warm finished with 18 saves on 18 shots.

The Americans are back on the ice tomorrow to take on the Seattle Thunderbirds at 3 PM in Everett. Click HERE for the full preseason schedule.
