Eric Comrie Named to Subway Super Series Team WHL Roster

Brad Lindsey

KENNEWICK, WA – Tri-City Americans’ Governor/General Manager Bob Tory, in conjunction with the Western Hockey League, is pleased to announce that 17-year-old goaltender Eric Comrie will compete as a member of Team WHL at the upcoming 2012 SUBWAY® Super Series.

With his selection, Comrie becomes the sixth Tri-City Americans player to be named to a Team WHL roster for this event and the third goaltender to be chosen.  He joins former Tri-City players Brendan Shinnimin, Chet Pickard, Carey Price, Logan Stephenson and Shawn Belle as participants in the series.

Comrie, the 6’1, 170 pound netminder that calls both Newport Beach, CA and Edmonton, AB home, is in the midst of his second full season with the Americans and, 14 games into the 2012-13 season, currently sits atop the WHL leaderboard in wins (9), shutouts (2) and minutes played (850), ranked 2nd in save percentage (0.925) and 3rd in goals against average (2.26).  After picking up 19 wins as a 16-year-old rookie, Comrie is now 28-9-2-2 in 45 career games, compiling a career 2.53 goals against average and a 0.909 save percentage.  Comrie, originally drafted by Tri-City in the 1st Round (13th overall) in the 2010 Bantam Draft, also recently earned a Gold medal with Team Canada at this summer’s 2012 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka U-18 Tournament in Slovakia.

The 2012 SUBWAY® Super Series will take place November 5 – 15 and marks the 10th straight year that teams of CHL All-Stars have competed against Team Russia in preparation for the World Junior Hockey Championships.  The SUBWAY® Super Series is an integral part of the evaluation process prior to Team Canada’s final selection camp in December.  This season, Canada will be competing for their 15th straight gold medal at the 2013 tournament being held in Russia.

Team WHL will face Team Russia in Games 5 and 6 of the series played Wednesday, November 14 in Vancouver, B.C. and on Thursday, November 15 in Victoria, B.C.  The first two games of the series are held by the QMJHL, while the OHL will host Games 3 and 4.
