KENNEWICK, WA – Team Finland dropped a 4-2 opening round decision today to Team Canada at the IIHF U 20 World Junior Tournament being held at Key Bank Center in Buffalo, New York.

Team Finland is captained by 19-year-old Americans defenseman Juuso Välimäki, a 2017 first round draft pick of the NHL’s Calgary Flames. Juuso had one assist in today’s game.

Both Team Finland goals were tallied by WHL stars Aleksi Heponiemi (Swift Current Broncos) and Henri Jokiharju (Portland Winterhawks).

Other opening day games today featured the Czechs upsetting Russia 5-4 and Sweden blasting Belarus 6-1.

The final game of the day features Team USA hosting Denmark at 5 pm PST. The game can be seen on NHL Network.
