Walter Nets Winner As Americans Defeat Brandon 4-3

John Allen

Brandon, MB- Tri-City began the Eastern Canada road trip the right way.

The Americans scored two third period goals as Lukas Walter scored the game winning goal as the Tri-City Americans (5-3-0-1, 11 pts) defeat the Brandon Wheat Kings (5-3-0-0, 10 pts) 4-3 in Manitoba.

Tri-City had the advantage in the first period outshooting Brandon 14-7. Brandon had two chances on the power play while the Americans had one, but both goalies held strong to make it zeros after one.

The Americans took the lead in the second period when Parker Bowles scored his fourth goal of the season on the power play, putting home a Jesse Mychan rebound in front of the net to take a 1-0 lead.

The Wheat Kings would tie the game midway through the period when Alessio Bertaggia put home a Tim McGauley pass to tie the game at one.

But 29 seconds is all the Americans would need to retake the lead, as Connor Rankin deked through the Brandon defense and put it past Corbin Boes to make it 2-1 Americans after two periods

Lucas Nickles added another goal in the third period to pad the Tri-City lead to 3-1. Lukas Walter added his first goal of the season to make it a 4-1 lead early in the third.  Brandon would cut the lead in half as Bertaggia would add his second goal of the game midway through the third period to cut the lead to 4-2.

Ryan Pulock put the puck past Eric Comrie to make it 4-3 with 35 seconds left in the game. Brandon pulled the goalie for the extra attacker but couldn’t score to tie the game as the Americans began the East Canada road trip with a 4-3 win.

The American won their second straight game at Brandon. Eric Comrie made 28 saves in the win, while Corbin Boes made 33 saves in the loss.
