Americans Select Burick, McCord in 2023 WHL U.S. Priority Draft

KENNEWICK, WASH. – Tri-City Americans General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the organization has selected defenseman Sean Burick and forward Rowan McCord in the 2023 WHL U.S. Priority Draft.

The Americans used their first-round pick to select Burick at 13th overall. Burick is a six-foot-six and 171-pound defenseman from San Clemente, California. The 15-year-old played with Los Angeles Jr. Kings 14U AAA during the 2022-23 season and collected 23 points (six goals and 17 assists) through 52 games played.

Tri-City selected a local prospect in the second round with Rowan McCord at 35th overall. The six-foot-one and 165-pound forward is a native of Kennewick, Washington. He played this past season with Rocky Mountain Roughriders 14U, totaling 64 points (39 goals and 25 assists) through 61 games played.

Players eligible for the draft are 2008-born players who reside in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Players not selected in the 2023 WHL U.S. Priority Draft will remain eligible to be selected in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft or listed by a WHL Club at any time thereafter.

The Americans will select 13th overall in the 2023 WHL Prospect Draft tomorrow.
