Preview: Ams hit the road to open another 3-in-3 weekend in Spokane

Tri-City will faceoff against the Spokane Chiefs tonight at the Spokane Arena. It will be the 9th of 12 matchups this season between the two teams. Tri-City is 5-3-0-0 against the Chiefs so far this season. They most recently met on February 25 when Tri-City fell 4-2 in Spokane.

Ethan Ernst (5-6–11) and Parker Bell (3-8–11) lead the Americans with 11 points each against the Chiefs. Chase Bertholet has been Spokane’s best player against the Americans with three goals and five assists. Tomas Suchanek has played in net for four of Tri-City’s five wins against the Chiefs with a 2.30 GAA and .936%.

The Ams last played on Sunday as they fell 5-4 in a shootout to the Kelowna Rockets.

Deagan McMillan opened scoring for Tri-City, the Ams are 19-11 this season when scoring first. Kelowna scored three straight in the second period to take a 3-1 lead, but the Ams fought their way back with goals from Alex Serraglio and Tyson Greenway. Ethan Peters scored on the power play with 6 minutes remaining to send the game into overtime for the second straight night. Kelowna ended up winning in a five-round shootout. The Ams are 0-3 in shootouts this season. Tomas Suchanek turned aside 25 of 29 shots faced during the game and 4 of 5 attempts during the shootout. Tri-City out shot Kelowna 41-29. It was the 7th time this season that the Ams have lost while leading shots on goal.

The Ams have already secured a berth in the 2023 WHL Playoffs. It will be Tri-City’s first playoff appearance since 2019.
