A year ago, Zachary Yuen was a fresh-faced 16-year-old on the Tri-City Americans blue line, learning the ropes on a championship team.
Nowadays, Yuen still is pretty fresh-faced, but he’s a grizzled veteran of 17, counted upon to provide leadership in the back.
“During the playoffs, I played a lot more, and that helped me this year,” Yuen said. “The first half of last year, I didn’t play, but in the playoffs, the coaches were trusting me a lot more. I got a lot more ice time, and I was playing a lot better. It felt pretty good.”
Yuen spent the offseason working on all aspects of his game and came into the season with the mindset to become more offensive-minded and bring the puck out of the defensive zone more.
